Angiogenesis
The formation of new blood vessels, neovascularisation, involves the processes of angiogenesis and vasculogenesis and is vital for the healing of wounds. Angiogenesis occurs when local mature endothelial cells, derived from existing blood vessels, form new capillaries via migration, proliferation and differentiation and is often studied using laser Doppler imaging (Bauer et al, 2006).
Laser Doppler imaging has been used in studies of angiogenesis in a range of investigations:
- Dermal wound healing in punch wounds (Ebrahimian et al, 2009)
- Angiogenesis in the ischaemic flap (Thanik et al, 2010. Isenberg et al, 2009. Bauer et al, 2006)
Moor Instruments produces a high resolution laser Doppler imager, the moorLDI2-HR, offering fine pixel resolution of 100µm, ideal for imaging angiogenesis.

We recommend the moorLDI2-HR system for use in imaging of angiogenesis.
